Let me start out by saying I have never blogged or even read others blogs, so this is a whole new world for me!  I am starting this as a way to keep a journal of my blossoming little ranch that I am starting :).

A bit about me:  I am a 27 year old female, married to my high school sweetheart.  I know its cliche but ahh well it's worked for us...we have no kids and no plans for any in the near future.  I blame the lack of kids on me being an only child, I love being the center of attention in our relationship haha. My husband and I went to neighboring high schools, met because he worked for my dad (electrical company) and after graduatione we attended college together.  First a community college and then McNeese State University where he received a bachelors in electrical engineering and I received a bachelors in agriculture/animal science followed by a masters in science.  We lived in Lake Charles for 6 years and although i was homesick I loooovved our life over there!  We had great friends and bought a wonderful 2200 sq ft home on 5 acres.  Just when we were getting comnfortable my husband received a job offer he couldn't pass up.  He is now an electrical engineer at Stennis Space Center and we have moved back closer to home; Picayune, MS to be exact.  I have had a tough time finding a job in my field over here and although I could always go back to being a vet tech (what I did for 6 years while in college)  I have chosen another path for now. I recently purchased a website with the help of my cousin and I will be selling horse tack, western clothing and handmade jewelry (my current creative outlet) www.backwoodsbarbietrash.com

Property Plans: We bought 20 acres with a funky single-wide trailer on it. I completely fell in love with our property, it has a huge pond, tons of magnolia trees and a creek flowing through it.  We looked at much nicer homes but none had the land that I really wanted. Although the trailer isn't that old, the previous occupants really wrecked it!  We remodeled the trailer and have BIG plans to build one a those Morton Buildings on the property that will serve as a barn and a home.  I personally can't wait, I have discovered that this redneck girls needs higher-class living arrangements believe it or not.  Now, I aint knocking trailers, don't get me wrong but this particular one is much too small and just doesn't suit our needs.  I ain't a snob, I swear!  I mean, I plan on living IN MY BARN in the near future! Our little piece of paradise...I have nicknamed it The Rednek Riviera!   We actually have a creek flowing through it, not a river but oh well.  We have 20 acres but only about 5-7 are currently cleared and 2 1/2 of those acres are horse pasture.  Considerin' we have three horses it aint nearly enough!  I am currently looking for someone to come clear about 5-7 more acres for me.  I would like to leave the area around the creek as woods, we have tons of deer and wildlife that rely on the creek and I try to live in harmony with nature when possible.  We plan to build a two story barn/house (see picture) in the near future and I will be perfectly content...maybe...

Critters: I am something of a rescuer so our number of animals changes on a weekly basis :)  We have 3 permanent dogs (boxer, toy poodle and a boston/chihuahua.  We also have 3 horses ( 1 quarter horse and 2 tennessee walkers) and 3 nigerian dwarf dairy goats ( they are my next big venture, I plan to make cheese and soap soon!) We have a bunch of chickens, all different breeds!  Lastly we have one cat (Splat, a road-not quite kill rescue :) ) and a sulcata tortoise (Sheldon)

I will try to keep this blog a light-hearted accounting of our lifestyle and leave out the deep thoughts but my writing style invariably reflects my mood so bear with me please.
