rainy days ahead

Ugh! This flip-flopping weather is wreaking havoc on my poor lil farm.  I have lost 4 young chickens since we had a freeze the other week.  I believe they all got pneumonia from the weather going hot/cold/hot.  This spring needs to hurry up and get here!  Anyhow, after I realized the problem with my chicks I got some powdered anitbiotic to add to their water.  I still lost a few but hopefully the rest will be fine.  My chickens are just for egg production and I have a varied group of 'em.  I have a horrible habit in the springtime, everytime I walk into a feedstore that has chicks I leave with a few :).  So I currently have buff orpingtons, silkies, frizzles, EE's, silver laced wyandottes, blue and barred cochins.  A few months ago I tried my hand a incubating some eggs from my silkie hens and frizzle rooster.  That's right folks...I made sizzles!  They are too cute but I wish had gotten more color (they are all black).
On a happier note, the rain is doing wonders for our pasture!  Our 3 horses are confined to about an acre right now and it's basically a dry lot.  We separated the pasture and planted half of it in bahia grass 3 weeks ago.  It's coming in pretty good!  When we bought our property a few acres were cleared but none of it had been fenced or planted.  It was just weeds and it's been difficult to get any grass to come up with the horses on it 24/7.  So we cut our one 2 1/2 -3 acre pasture in half and we are about to start fencing another 1 1/2 acres.  This will mean 3 separate pastures and frequent rotations until we can clear and plant more.  As we fence the 3rd horse pasture we will also fence off a 1/2 acre area strictly for the goats as well.  They will rotate through the other pastures to eat what the horses won't eat but this 1/2 acre will be their permanent home.  We are doing our fences with wooden corner posts, t posts, 48in. redbrand fencing and electrobraid.

this rain needs to stop because I can't wait to get the fencing done!  More pasture would be a dream come true right now considering our feed bills ugh!
